SIMSOC II

This demo version allows you 10 seasons to prove your ability as a football team manager / player-manager.

Initially you are in charge off Hillesley United Reserves, who, due to a mistake at FA Headquarters, find themselves promoted to the Conference League. You can remain in this job or resign and seek another team to manage. You would be best advised to keep your job until you have acheived some measure of success as this will determine the size of club which will hire you, do not think about job hunting until you see you manager rating climb to above 50%, your experience is also measured on how high a division you have worked in. You will probably get a job with a Conference side at any time, to manager in the Premiership you will need a good rating plus at least 1st or 2nd division experience. You can resign from a club at any time. Once you have proved yourself competent you will find that teams you are playing will, from time to time, try and 'poach' you to be their manager.

The objective is to win promotion, cups & championships by building a strong enough squad of players and picking the right teams to match the variety of opposition that comes your way.

Potentially you can go on to win the classic Premier League & FA Cup double, with cracks at the FA Trophy, Minor Cup and League Cup along the way.

Tips
----
Picking the right team to face the opposition is all important, it is not always the 11 most skillful players who will fare best.

Players have 3 attributes - Skill, Fitness & Morale, and they are designated as being either goalkeepers, defenders, midfield, or attackers.

A player's skill remains constant throughout a season.

A player's fitness is reduced by playing matches and restored by resting.

Morale is increased by being in a winning team and reduced by being in a losing team.

Each team you face has 5 aspects of strength for you to match your team selection to face.

These are Defence, Midfield, Attack, Morale & Fitness.

Defence, Midfield & Attack are the sums of the skill of the players.

You can see what the opposition's first 4 are but you will have to take a chance on their fitness is.

The things to consider are:

How does you attack rate against their defence & vice versa. The higher the ratio of attack over defence

How does your midfield & defence combined rate against their midfield & attack combined and vice versa.

How does you midfield & morale combined rate against their midfield & fitness combined and vice versa.

Plus in cup games there is an advantage to being in a higher league than the opposition.

Basically try and pick the best team to maximize your advantage in all of the above to maximize your chance of winning a given match - but do not
forget to rest unfit players when needed so that you are not crippled for the next match.

The less fit a player is, the more likely they will become injured and become unavailable for subsequent matches.

Sometimes a player will get injured in a match and will have to be substituted.

You can make up to 3 substitutions per match, this can be used to readjust your tactics if things are going badly or to reduce the erosion of a players fitness, although on balance the net fitness loss to the two players is more than that incurred to the player if not substituted.

Finally there is always the element of luck over which you have little, if any, control.

Your manager rating is calculated by considering the results you achieve, and determines your ability to get a new job, or the sack from your current one!

Gate money also depends on the success of your team, the success of the opposition, & their club size.

You will need money to buy new players, you can even try and make money by trading players - although this is not a guaranteed way to get rich!

You will occasionally be offered a player, you have 3 attempts to bid before the offer is withdrawn. You will always be offered a player if you go to watch a game in a turn when your team is not playing.

You can sell plays from the Squad Management screen, it is best to not to build too large a squad as you will find players get unhappy and leave - a maximum of 20 players should suffice, do not forget the more players you have the higher your wage bill will be.

The big money is earned by winning consistently thus attracting big home gates, long cup runs, especially matches against top class opponents and of course those Wembley gates.

=========================================================================
Golden Tips:
Always have a spare goalkeeper in your squad.

Fitness is about 1/3 as important as skill when considering an optimum team selection.

Its better to rest a player than let him become injured.

To build a strong squad go and watch matches when you have no game to play, you will always be offered a player to buy when you do.

The bigger your squad is the more likely it is that some players will leave, 18 to 24 players is the range you should aim at.

Be lucky!
